What began as the Flims mountain slide has evolved into a unique natural setting today. The Rhine has carved a path through the stony detritus from the slide between Ilanz and Reichenau over the last ten thousand years. The result is a gorge that proudly and rightfully has been nicknamed the Grand Canyon of Switzerland. The Tschingelhörner and Martinsloch |

The jagged peaks of the Tschingelhörner can hardly be overlooked. However, twice a year a spectacular show takes place through the Martinsloch below the ridge. In March and October, the sun shines through the 19-meter hole and illuminates the church tower of Elm for a brief moment. A unique experience! |

Flims Mountain Slide |

The special lay of the land at Flims is to a large extent the result of a gigantic natural catastrophe. Fifteen billion cubic meters of chalk cliffs provided the basis for the Rhine Gorge along with the wonderful mountain lakes. The unique terraced setting at Flims still bears witness to this massive mountain slide today. |
